Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture, El-Sayed El-Quseir, has announced the opening of Moroccan markets to Egyptian potatoes and Canadian markets to Egyptian strawberries.
This development follows a successful report received by El-Quseir from Saad Moussa, the supervisor of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, detailing the achievement of opening the Moroccan market for Egyptian potato exports.
The Moroccan agricultural authorities (ONSSA) have officially notified the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine of their approval to allow Egyptian potato exports into Morocco, with actual export activities commencing promptly.
This move signifies a milestone in Egypt’s agricultural export expansion efforts and strengthens bilateral trade relations between Egypt and Morocco.
Furthermore, the report highlighted the successful penetration of the Canadian market by Egyptian fresh strawberries for the first time.
The completion of all procedures to meet the Canadian technical requirements marks Egypt’s strategic entry into Canada’s agricultural market. This accomplishment is expected to contribute significantly to the national income from the agricultural sector.
Noteworthy is El-Quseir’s previous announcement that Egyptian agricultural exports had surpassed 2.2 million tons, amounting to approximately $1.5 billion during the first quarter of the current year.
This represents an increase of $300 million compared to the same period last year, despite global challenges affecting supply chains and the Egyptian government’s measures to halt the export of certain agricultural products to bolster the local market.
Agricultural exports currently stand as the second-largest source of national income from foreign currency for Egypt, as per the report from the General Authority for Export and Import Control under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
This achievement underlines the importance of the agricultural sector in Egypt’s economy and its potential for growth in international markets.
