The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmi, stated that the meeting witnessed bilateral talks followed by extensive discussions between the delegations of the two countries.
The Egyptian-Greek discussions focused on ways to enhance prospects for bilateral cooperation, where mutual interest was confirmed in rapidly activating and implementing agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two sides. The talks also centered on continuing to push cooperation in the areas of military, economic, and cultural cooperation, alongside energy files including natural gas and electric connectivity, as well as cooperation in green transformation sectors.
On another front, the discussions saw an exchange of visions and viewpoints towards regional issues of common interest, consistent with the positions of the two states in the Eastern Mediterranean region. This included confirmation that the East Mediterranean Gas Forum represents one of the most important tools in this regard.
The two leaders discussed the developments in the phenomenon of illegal immigration in the Mediterranean basin. The Greek Prime Minister appreciated the efforts Egypt is exerting to confront this phenomenon, particularly in light of the burdens imposed by hosting millions of refugees on Egyptian soil.
The spokesperson also indicated that discussions addressed, in the same context, a number of mutual interest issues, including the global ramifications of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis developments, as well as updates on existing crises in the region.
The Egyptian President confirmed Egypt’s position in supporting the political track and the importance of conducting the presidential and parliamentary entitlements in Libya, the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan lands, and the restoration of its sovereignty, unity of its territories, and stability.
In this regard, the two sides agreed to continue intensive coordination to face the various shared challenges that the region is confronting.
