Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, reiterated Egypt’s clear and proactive stance regarding the crisis in the Gaza Strip during statements to accompanying press members.
He emphasized Egypt’s extensive efforts in cooperation with Qatar and the US to achieve a ceasefire, enforce a truce, and facilitate prisoner and hostage exchanges, along with the delivery of sufficient aid quantities.
In a timely Arab summit convened today in Manama, Egypt is playing a crucial role during a particularly delicate phase for the Arab region.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is keen on presenting Egypt’s vision for resolving the crisis through the establishment of a two-state solution and a sovereign Palestinian state.
He stressed that the crisis is not isolated from the international community, which should operate on principles of justice and equality to preserve peoples’ rights to self-determination.
Fahmy highlighted that the war in Gaza is entering its eighth month with a new escalation marked by Israeli military operations in Rafah.
He reinforced that Egypt’s position has been consistent from the crisis’s onset, advocating for a political solution based on the agreed two-state resolution, rather than through military and security measures which prove futile.
On the humanitarian front, Fahmy affirmed Egypt’s pivotal role from day one, managing and coordinating international aid at Al-Arish airport.
This included significant contributions from Egyptian governmental and non-governmental organizations, despite numerous challenges to ensure the aid’s delivery to the beleaguered residents of Gaza, who have suffered from killings, destruction, displacement, starvation, and siege.
Dr. Fahmy also mentioned the ongoing Arab summit as a forum for unifying Arab positions, aiming to reflect a concerted voice in the summit’s decisions.
He expressed hopes that this unity would prompt a more robust international engagement to address the profound challenges and crises facing the Arab world, particularly the dire situation in Gaza, which poses significant threats to regional security and stability.
