The Egyptian delegate to the United Nations, in a statement broadcast by Cairo News Channel, stated that Israeli crimes have escalated to the extent of killing United Nations staff and demolishing its facilities. He emphasized that Palestinian rights are inalienable, natural, basic, and unconditional. He called on member states to act swiftly in granting Palestine full UN membership.
Furthermore, he affirmed Egypt’s demand for full support and the resumption of funding for UNRWA, and continued efforts to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and increase the entry of humanitarian aid. He highlighted that Israel is attempting to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
The suspension of funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) by several key Western countries has led to a significant crisis for the agency, which has been a primary source of aid for Palestinians. The funding cuts came after allegations that a small number of UNRWA staff were involved in attacks against Israel.
The situation in Rafah, Gaza, has also become particularly dire. The city has become a last resort refuge for a significant portion of Gaza’s population due to its proximity to border crossings, which are critical for aid entry. However, the continuous military actions and severe restrictions on movement have made living conditions and aid distribution increasingly challenging. The forced displacement actions by Israel in Rafah have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, leading to inadequate shelter, food supplies, and medical care for the displaced populations.
