Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a warning on Wednesday about the perilous prospect of military escalation on multiple fronts in the region. In a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis in Cairo, El-Sisi stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to defuse the critical situation.
During the meeting, El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting the people in Gaza, delivering humanitarian aid, and actively working to calm the ongoing situation. The Egyptian President highlighted the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the necessity of enforcing the delivery of aid to alleviate its impact.
The Greek Foreign Minister concurred with El-Sisi’s stance, acknowledging Egypt’s pivotal role as a cornerstone for peace and stability in the Middle East. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to swiftly move towards a just and comprehensive settlement for the Palestinian cause, recognizing it as the central issue in the region and a pathway to achieving peace, security, and stability.
In addition to discussing the situation in Gaza, El-Sisi and Gerapetritis conveyed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across various areas. They emphasized the strategic relations between Egypt and Greece, praising the persistent coordination and cooperation on multiple fronts, including through the Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism with Cyprus.
Earlier in the day, the Greek Foreign Minister held a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, where they discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the Red Sea.
As Israel’s conflict with Gaza entered its 103rd day, there is mounting domestic and international pressure on Israel to halt its extensive military campaign in the Palestinian territories, marking one of the most destructive wars in the region in the past 75 years.
