In a significant diplomatic move, Egypt’s Sameh Shoukry stresses the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza during a call with Italy’s Antonio Tajani.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Minister Sameh Shoukry held a phone conversation with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, on Saturday.
They discussed the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip. Shoukry emphasized that an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire is the only way to end the crisis, as reported by the Arab World News Agency.
The ministers’ talks concentrated on the humanitarian and security aspects in Gaza. Minister Shoukry affirmed that achieving a complete and immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza “remains the sole path to resolving the tense situation and reducing escalating violence in the region.”
Shoukry also stressed the need for international parties to take responsibility. This includes supporting the enforcement of a ceasefire and allowing full delivery of humanitarian aid to the sector. He also highlighted the importance of preventing any Israeli attempts at Palestinian displacement.
The ministers also discussed the current regional tensions due to the situation in Gaza. This includes issues on the Lebanese front and the security of navigation in the Red Sea. Both ministers agreed on the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to prevent the conflict from expanding in the region.
