General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Egypt’s Minister of Defense and Military Production, held a phone call with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
During the conversation, the two officials discussed the circumstances of the recent border incident. They also coordinated joint efforts to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Military Spokesperson for the Armed Forces issued a statement indicating that one of the security personnel tasked with securing the international border was involved in a chase with drug smugglers.
During the chase, the officer breached the security barrier and a gunfire exchange occurred. This resulted in the death of three members of the Israeli security forces and the injury of two others. The Egyptian security officer involved also lost his life during the gunfire exchange.
The military spokesperson affirmed that all necessary search, inspection, and security measures are being undertaken in the area, and legal actions concerning the incident are underway.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured parties.
