Luis Miguel Bueno, the European Union’s regional media officer for the Middle East and North Africa, provided further insights in a TV interview regarding the European operation in the Red Sea.
He emphasized that the primary objective of the operation is defensive in nature, with a key focus on ensuring the security of navigation in the Red Sea region.
Bueno noted that the collaborative effort involves four European countries and was initiated in response to specific requests from unidentified entities.
Responding to inquiries about potential coordination between the European Union and Houthi militias to safeguard European ships in the Red Sea, Bueno unequivocally refuted such collaboration.
He clarified that all coordination activities are conducted exclusively through official channels and in conjunction with the legitimate, internationally recognized government of Yemen.
This assertion underlines the EU’s commitment to engaging with recognized authorities and maintaining adherence to international norms and protocols.
