The FIFA Referees Committee has selected an Emirati international refereeing team as part of the 89 referees from various national associations to officiate the football competitions at the Olympic Games, hosted by Paris, France.
The Emirati team includes international referee Adel Al-Naqbi and international assistant referees Ahmed Al-Rashdi and Sept Obaid.
The selection process for the referees of the Paris Olympics was based on leadership skills, proficiency and technical knowledge, physical fitness, and performance in continental and international matches they have officiated in recent years.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has declared a new initiative to boost anti-terrorism efforts with France in anticipation of the Summer Olympics and the European Football Championship.
This collaboration aims to address the risk of potential terrorist acts during these significant European sports events.
Faeser outlined plans for mutual support between the two nations, stating, “German police will assist at the Paris Olympics, while French officers will be present at the Euro Championship in Germany.”
She highlighted the paramount importance of security at these events for both countries.
Furthermore, Faeser revealed her discussions with French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, confirming their agreement on “close cooperation.”
Earlier this year, the FIFA Council unanimously approved investments dedicated to football development between 2023 and 2026, totalling $2.25 billion.
This amount is seven times more than what was invested in development programs before 2016.
The FIFA Council stated “the annual report, agreed upon by the Governance and Audit Committee in FIFA and the Finance Committee, will be distributed to all 211 member associations and presented to the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok on May 17, 2024, for final approval.”
