The FIFA General Assembly will vote during its upcoming meeting in Bangkok on the 17th of this month on the Palestinian Football Association’s request to suspend Israel’s membership in FIFA.
The Palestinian Football Association submitted a memorandum requesting a vote to isolate Israel from the football community, and FIFA approved the proposal for voting during the next General Assembly “Congress”.
The President of the Jordanian Football Association, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, stated on Sunday that “FIFA is being tested on its duties towards human rights policy” before considering the Palestinian request to suspend Israel from FIFA membership.
Prince Ali bin Al Hussein wrote on the “X” platform: “Youth participation and protecting their human rights are among the most important principles of football that have always been a source of pride for me during my career in this field. But what is happening in Palestine puts FIFA to the test to exercise its duties towards human rights policy.”
He added in another post: “As we approach the FIFA 2024 conference, we strive, as always, to achieve justice, humanity, and stand on the right side of history.”
In a statement issued last March, the Palestinian Football Association stated that “99 Palestinian players have been killed since the start of the war in Gaza”, in addition to “the destruction of football facilities.”
At that time, the President of the Israeli Football Association, Shlomi Barzel, affirmed that “the Israeli Football Association has always adhered to FIFA regulations.”
