A massive fire broke out at the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf building in downtown Cairo earlier today. Emergency response teams, including fire and ambulance services, were quickly dispatched to control the blaze.
According to local newspaper “Al-Masry Al-Youm”, the burning building was completely empty of staff, as the Ministry had relocated to the new administrative capital several weeks ago. Police forces managed traffic around the scene to avoid congestion.
Cairo’s Governor, Major General Khaled Abdel-Aal, responded by forming an engineering committee to assess the building’s condition post-fire and to clarify the extent of the damage caused. He also ordered the rapid removal of the fire’s aftermath once the public prosecution and criminal investigations had finished examining the location.
In response to the situation, the public prosecutor’s office of downtown Cairo delegated a criminal laboratory to examine the scene of the Ministry of Awqaf building fire to determine the cause. A team from the prosecutor’s office was also dispatched to inspect the site.
According to “Al-Ahram” online portal, the central operations room in Cairo received a report about the fire in the Ministry of Awqaf building. Governor Abdel-Aal immediately proceeded to the site of the fire, where civil defense forces were able to bring the situation under control without any reported casualties or injuries. Cooling operations are currently underway.
