Jean-Yves Le Drian, France’s special envoy to Lebanon, urged Lebanese officials on Tuesday to seek a “third option” to resolve the ongoing presidential crisis.
In an interview with “Agence France-Presse,” Le Drian emphasized the urgency of the situation. He stated, “It’s crucial that political factions put an end to this unbearable crisis for the Lebanese people.”
Highlighting the severe implications of the current state, he warned, “Key indicators signal that Lebanon is entering a zone of extreme danger.” Le Drian further stressed the existing options’ ineffectiveness, noting, “Neither of the current choices can yield a victorious outcome, and neither option is poised for success.”
Given the strategic importance of Lebanon in the Middle East, and its historical ties with France, this statement underlines the international concern growing around the stability and future of the country.
