The Group of Seven (G7) leaders expressed strong support on Tuesday for the comprehensive deal proposed by US President Joe Biden to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
They called on Hamas to accept the deal and urged nations with influence over Hamas to ensure its compliance.
In a statement, the G7 leaders endorsed the deal, which includes an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, a significant increase in humanitarian aid distribution throughout Gaza, and a long-term resolution ensuring both Israel’s security and the safety of Gazan civilians.
The G7 reiterated their commitment to a peaceful solution that led to the establishment of two states.
“We reaffirm our support for a credible pathway towards peace leading to a two-state solution,” they stated. “We call on Hamas to accept this deal, which Israel is ready to move forward with, and we urge countries with influence over Hamas to help ensure that it does so.”
Last Friday, President Biden announced Israel’s “comprehensive new proposal” aimed at ending the conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
The proposal, as reported by CNN, offers a roadmap to a ceasefire and secures the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
President Biden discussed the deal with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, urging him to use all appropriate measures to gain Hamas’ acceptance.
Biden emphasized that the proposal, conveyed to Hamas by Qatar, outlines a detailed plan for achieving a ceasefire.
The initial phase of the proposal, lasting six weeks, involves a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza, and the release of several hostages, including women, the elderly, and the wounded, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
