The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
The request was made by the GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al-Badiwi, who urged the international community to end the suffering of the Palestinians and establish a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
This appeal was made during his speech at the high-level segment of the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, where he emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue for the GCC states and demanded an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories.
Al-Badiwi also highlighted the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and criticized the double standards some countries apply to the Palestinian issue.
He affirmed that East Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine and is occupied Palestinian territory.
In related developments, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterated calls to mitigate the worsening humanitarian situation in and around the Gaza Strip.
Saudi Minister of Media Salman bin Yusuf Al-Dosari, in his statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the weekly session held by the Cabinet chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz the day before yesterday, said, “The Council followed up on developments in the regional and international arenas, especially the developments in the Palestinian territories.”
He renewed calls for reducing the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings and the escalation of military operations threatening international peace and security.
