Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called for intensified efforts to prepare Ukraine for the upcoming winter, including supplying it with air defense equipment and ensuring energy supplies.
She made this statement during her visit to Kyiv, where she met with other European Union foreign ministers.
“Baerbock,” who was in Kyiv alongside other EU foreign ministers, stated, “We witnessed the brutal way in which the Russian president waged this war last winter,” referring to attacks that targeted Ukraine’s infrastructure, as reported by Reuters.
She further added, “We must prevent this to the best of our ability.”
The call for enhanced preparations for winter comes as Ukraine remains in a precarious position, especially in the face of potential aggression from Russia.
Germany and other EU nations are keen to bolster Ukraine’s defenses and ensure its energy security to prevent a recurrence of the hardships faced during the previous winter.
Efforts to support Ukraine include supplying it with air defense systems, which would help protect against potential aerial threats.
Additionally, securing energy supplies is vital to ensure that Ukraine has a stable source of heating and electricity during the cold winter months.
