Following the liberation of four Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock spoke of a new hope for ending the war.
Baerbock said in statements to the German media group “Funke,” issued today, Sunday: “It is up to Hamas to agree to a ceasefire proposal… It is on the table and could be the beginning of the end of the war.”
Baerbock said that for the families of the four hostages, their release was a moment of happiness they almost lost hope for, adding: “And for the people of the Middle East, it is a glimmer of hope for an end to suffering, and for the release of the other hostages and their embrace by their loved ones.”
The Israeli army announced yesterday, Saturday, the rescue of four Israeli hostages in a “special and complex daytime operation” in the Nusayrat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, after 246 days in captivity.
The army said the four are in “good health” and have been transferred to the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer for further medical examinations.
The army added that Hamas had kidnapped the hostages, three men and a woman, from the “Nova” music festival on October 7 in southern Israel.
