Google Assistant, a widely-used virtual assistant software application, is gearing up to enhance its capabilities by integrating Bard, a generative AI chatbot, intending to extend its advanced functionalities to billions of users worldwide.
Google announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that this notable integration, titled “Assistant With Bard”, aims to stretch the capabilities of its virtual assistant, although without revealing a specific launch date.
Introduced to the public in late 2022, Bard emerged as a generative AI chatbot, positioning itself as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and distancing both from the pack with their superior capabilities. Bard, functioning as a large language model (LLM), enables users to generate text, carry out everyday tasks, and solve intricate mathematical problems.
This forthcoming amalgamation of Bard and Google Assistant is set to introduce Bard’s cutting-edge capabilities to Google Home as well as mobile devices, encapsulating both iOS and Android platforms. Google Assistant, since its inception in 2016, has been providing users with fundamental AI capabilities and has gradually evolved to facilitate two-way interactions.
The “Assistant With Bard” is anticipated to redefine existing boundaries, with analysts predicting features like the ability to access and summarize users’ email contents.
Moreover, the tool is expected to manage other advanced operations such as planning vacations, dispatching emails, and crafting text messages. Additionally, it will navigate the web, summarizing webpage contents and distinguishing between genuine content and advertisements or design elements.
In a departure from the conventional voice input method, the upcoming integration will permit users to engage with the tool using images. Google has indicated that users can upload images, which the Assistant will then be capable of captioning.
Further enhancements encompass improvements in voice dictation, enabling users to communicate with the Assistant in a relaxed and natural manner. While traditional interactions with voice assistants might require somewhat “robotic” speech, this tool will likely recognize natural speech pauses and genuine commands distinctively.
Google continues to weave AI into its product suite, introducing generative AI features for Search and deploying a machine learning-based anti-money laundering tool. The tech behemoth is also in the process of training a new generative AI model that is rumored to outperform the functionalities of ChatGPT.
