White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that Washington is still awaiting a response from the Palestinian Hamas movement regarding the Gaza ceasefire proposal unveiled by President Joe Biden last Friday.
Sullivan, in remarks reported by Alhurra TV on Wednesday, said, “We are waiting for Hamas’s response through intermediaries,” noting that CIA Director William Burns will visit Doha to consult with Qatari intermediaries about the ceasefire proposal in Gaza.
Qatar indicated on Tuesday that it had delivered Israel’s ceasefire proposal to Hamas, reflecting a three-stage plan proposed by Biden.
A Hamas official reportedly told intermediaries that without a clear position on a ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from Gaza, they would not agree to an agreement that does not guarantee these conditions, as reported by Cairo News Channel.
