Hezbollah, the Lebanese political and militant group, launched a significant rocket attack targeting northern Israel, specifically hitting the Meron base and the Granit barracks.
In a statement, Hezbollah declared the assault a response to a recent assassination carried out by Israeli forces in the south.
The group claimed that its fighters targeted the air surveillance unit at Meron base with dozens of Katyusha rockets, heavy missiles, and artillery shells, causing extensive damage to both existing and newly installed equipment, rendering parts of it completely nonfunctional.
In a subsequent statement, Hezbollah announced that its fighters had also targeted newly installed technical and espionage equipment at a radar site in the Lebanese Shebaa Farms, occupied by Israel, achieving direct hits and completely destroying the installation.
Israeli media reported numerous air raid sirens across several settlements in Upper Galilee, including Kiryat Shmona and its vicinity, where multiple explosions were heard.
The Israeli Army Radio reported that the rocket fire towards Meron was continuous and included the launch of a large explosive missile at the Granit barracks and a guided missile towards Kiryat Shmona.
The Marom Galil Regional Council reported several incidents in the Meron area but stated that there had been no injuries reported so far.
A field source told the Sputnik news agency that Hezbollah had fired over 100 rockets during the attack.
In a recent attack, an Israeli soldier named Haim Sabach, aged 20, was killed near a military site close to the town of Malikiyah in southern Lebanon.
The incident, reported by the “Times of Israel” quoting military sources, marks another grim escalation in tensions between the two factions.
Details surrounding the attack remain sparse, with no additional information provided by the newspaper regarding the circumstances of the assault
