A third Bahraini serviceman has died as a result of a Houthi drone attack on forces of the Saudi-led coalition in Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen.
The attack occurred on Monday, and the casualty was confirmed on Wednesday by Bahrain’s state news agency.
The Houthi movement, aligned with Iran, has been in conflict with the Saudi-led coalition since 2015, resulting in a protracted and devastating conflict that has led to hundreds of thousands of casualties and left 80% of Yemen’s population dependent on humanitarian aid.
This drone attack marks a significant escalation in hostilities, coming after more than a year of relative calm in Yemen as peace negotiations gained traction.
The attack could potentially jeopardize ongoing talks between Saudi and Houthi officials aimed at reaching an agreement to end the long-standing conflict.
The incident underscores the volatility of the situation in Yemen and the challenges faced in achieving a lasting peace in the region.
