Mohamed Rafat, head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission affiliated with the United Nations in Sudan, urged all parties to facilitate the delivery of aid to the region without obstacles through all available means, confirming that the prices of water and fuel have significantly increased, making essential needs costly.
The head of the International Organization for Migration mission in Sudan pointed out that at least 100 people, including 35 children, were killed due to violent attacks on the village of Wad El Noora in the Gezira state, while about 800,000 civilians in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, remain in danger amidst escalating fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
The head of the International Organization for Migration mission in Sudan affirmed that the number of internally displaced persons in Sudan since the start of the conflict on April 15, 2023, has reached nearly 10 million people, indicating that food insecurity has become an increasing factor in people’s decision to flee. Around 18 million people in the country suffer from severe hunger, while 3.6 million children suffer from acute malnutrition.
The International Migration Officer in Sudan added that more than two million people have fled across Sudan’s borders to neighboring countries, especially Chad and South Sudan, often arriving in extremely vulnerable conditions and suffering from severe psychological trauma.
