The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran has issued a stern warning, threatening missile strikes on the Israeli city of Haifa. The threat was voiced by the IRGC’s deputy chief, Ali Fadavi, who declared that Iran could attack Haifa “without hesitation” if deemed necessary.
Fadavi unveiled this threat while addressing students at the University of Tehran. Responding to a question about Iran taking direct action against Israel, he stated, “Some of you young people consider practical action to be a direct missile to Haifa, of course, if it is necessary, this will be done, and it will be done without hesitation.”
This isn’t Fadavi’s inaugural threat towards Israel. Previously, during the onset of a Hamas attack, he had warned Israel of a “shock wave from the resistance front” if it continued striking the Gaza Strip.
Haifa, a northern Israeli city, has been specifically named as a target. The city hosts several key installations including a port, a petrochemical complex, an electricity company, a hi-tech and business park, and a railway network, making it a significant target for Iranian missiles.
These menacing threats underscore the escalating tensions in the Middle East. Iran’s explicit threat of attacking Haifa exacerbates fears of a broader conflict in the already volatile region.
The international community is yet to respond to these threats. However, the escalating rhetoric from Iran is likely to evoke reactions from global powers and possibly the United Nations, given the potential for a severe escalation in hostilities.
The threats from the Revolutionary Guard showcase the ongoing hostility and volatile situation between Iran and Israel, marking a perilous phase in the Middle East geopolitics.
