In a new development, an Israeli newspaper reported that Iran has warned Hezbollah of the possibility that Israel might assassinate its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah.
According to a report by “Yedioth Ahronoth,” an Iranian envoy arrived in Beirut immediately after the assassination of Sami Abdullah, the commander of Hezbollah’s “Nasser” unit in southern Lebanon, and met with close associates of Hassan Nasrallah in a closed room to inform them of Iran’s concern that Israel is targeting Nasrallah himself.
The newspaper indicated that it has always been understood that Hezbollah believes Israel does not intend to eliminate Nasrallah, who has led the party for 32 years. While Nasrallah remains the most prominent figure in the party, the newspaper noted that reports occasionally naming potential successors likely trouble Nasrallah, as he suspects Tel Aviv leaks this information to weaken him and create internal tension within Hezbollah’s leadership.
The Mossad knows his location “Yedioth Ahronoth” reported that the Mossad “apparently knows Nasrallah’s precise location at all times, even if he changes his whereabouts, and even Nasrallah himself knows that Israel can reach him but refrains from doing so, according to the report.”
Despite the heightened security around him, former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen recently stated, “We know the exact location of the secretary-general of the terrorist organization, and we can eliminate him at any moment.” He added, “If a decision is made to settle scores with Nasrallah, Israel can do so at any time.”
The ongoing targeting of Hezbollah leaders in Lebanon by Israel, which has resulted in the deaths of over 300 individuals, raises questions about Israel’s strategic objective, especially with the preparations announced by Israeli officials concerning the northern border area.
