Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi inaugurated a key railway project, the “Mianeh-Bostan Abad-Tabriz” line on Friday, which links Iran with European nations for the first time.
Mehr News Agency reported that President Raisi unveiled the “Bostan Abad – Khavaran” railway line, located in the eastern province of Iranian Azerbaijan, as part of the broader “Mianeh-Tabriz” railway project, a critical infrastructure development connecting Iran with Europe.
During the launch ceremony, the Iranian President hailed his government’s efforts in the successful completion of this ambitious project.
The agency further confirmed that with the initiation of the “Mianeh – Bostan Abad – Tabriz” railway project, Iranian lines will be linked with Europe for the first time.
This connection, along with the rail lines of Nakhchivan, Yerevan, and Tbilisi, through Jolfa and other land and sea borders, is expected to increase international trade and boost the export of goods from Iran to Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey.
In addition, the completion of the railway line will shorten the rail route from the capital Tehran to the city of Tabriz by 114 kilometers, significantly reducing travel time.
The significate project will also increase Iran’s transit capacity, equivalent to 7 million tons of goods, as well as the transportation of two million passengers annually via these lines.
