Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, affirmed ongoing efforts to bolster Iraq’s air defense capabilities and monitor its airspace. This comes as part of the broader strategy to conclude the mission of the international coalition in Iraq.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office, via a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), announced the inauguration of the new Air Defense Command Operations Center. The Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on the center’s modernization efforts, which include advanced radar detection systems.
Al-Sudani emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting and strengthening command and control over Iraqi airspace, aiming to prevent breaches and enhance response capabilities. He praised the commanders and officers involved in the center’s establishment, noting its construction in cooperation with the French defense company Thales.
The Prime Minister reiterated that maintaining Iraq’s security and sovereignty over its land, airspace, and waters is a key priority. He stressed the importance of addressing security challenges following the end of the international coalition’s mission. Efforts include combating terrorist threats, enhancing early warning and detection capabilities, and adapting to advancements in air defense technologies in neighboring countries.
