The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed plans to enhance its cooperation with Moscow in the energy sector, according to spokesperson Ahmed Al-Sahaf.
Al-Sahaf highlighted that Russian companies operating in Iraq are making significant strides toward promising investments.
In an interview with Sputnik, Al-Sahaf noted that the current nature of relations between Baghdad and Moscow is witnessing a growing trend specifically within the energy sectors, predominantly oil and gas.
He affirmed that the Russian corporations in Iraq are proceeding towards promising investments that enhance the course of the bilateral relationship in the oil and gas sectors.
“Previous discussions have been held by the joint committee between Baghdad and Moscow, examining our relations in detail and the priority of the talks was to elevate the level of positions between the two countries at various forums and levels,” Al-Sahaf explained.
The spokesperson went on to suggest that the next stage will introduce a new and different type of interaction between Baghdad and Moscow in the energy sectors, specifically in the gas field. Al-Sahaf pointed out that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is currently considering the gas file for investment to strengthen Iraq’s partnerships with all its partners and friends on a top-priority basis.
Ali Al-Ward, the Director of the Technical Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, praised Russian companies operating in Iraq’s oil sector for their productive capacity that supported exports and financial returns.
