Armed factions in Iraq announced early this Sunday that they attacked two American military bases, one at the Omar oil field and the other at the Green Village in Syria, using drones. The statement clarified that these attacks are part of the “resistance against the American occupying forces in Iraq and the region, and in response to the Zionist entity’s massacres against our people in Gaza,” according to the text of the statement. The factions reiterated their stance on continuing to “strike the enemy’s strongholds.”
The Iraqi armed factions specified that they targeted two American military bases, one at the Omar oil field and the other at the Green Village deep inside Syria, using drones. The statement indicated that these attacks were carried out as part of “resisting the American occupying forces in Iraq and the region, and in response to what they described as Israeli massacres against the people of Gaza,” according to the statement.
The factions renewed their commitment in their statement to continue “striking the enemy’s strongholds.” There are approximately 900 American soldiers in Syria and 2,500 in Iraq. The United States says their mission is to provide advice and assistance to local forces trying to prevent the resurgence of ISIS, which controlled large areas of both countries in 2014.
Since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel on October 7, American forces in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to at least 100 attacks using missiles and drones.
