Israel decided on Thursday to enforce a comprehensive closure on the occupied West Bank and shut down the crossings with the Gaza Strip during the “Festival of the Throne” days.
Avichai Adraee, the spokesperson for the Israeli army, announced via his account on platform X (formerly Twitter) that the closure would be effective from midnight on Thursday-Friday, 29th September until midnight on Saturday-Sunday, 30th September. This decision was made after evaluating the security situation.
Adraee further added that this move was based on “an assessment of the security situation and directives from the political level.”
Tensions between Israel and the Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and Gaza, have persisted for decades, leading to sporadic security concerns. In response to perceived threats, Israel occasionally imposes closures or tightens restrictions on movement across certain areas, especially during significant religious or national celebrations.
Such measures, while intended to ensure safety, often spark debates about freedom of movement and the rights of the Palestinian people. The “Festival of the Throne” is not a traditional Jewish or Palestinian celebration, and its reference here may indicate an error or the mention of another event.
