Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, affirmed to French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu that Israel will not agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah.
During their meeting in Tel Aviv, Gallant emphasized that while a conflict in the north would pose challenges for Israel, it would be devastating for Hezbollah and Lebanon.
Gallant stated, “Israel will not cease fire until it can guarantee the safe return of the [evacuated] northern communities to their homes following a change in the security situation along the border.”
He briefed Lecornu on the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) progress in achieving war objectives, including the destruction of Hamas’s governing and military capabilities, and the safe return of hostages.
The Israeli readout highlighted Gallant’s appreciation for France’s commitment to altering the security situation in southern Lebanon and pushing Hezbollah forces away from the border.
Gallant also underscored the crucial role of France in the international efforts to stabilize the security situation on the northern border, aligning with broader diplomatic initiatives led by the US administration.
