On Friday, the Israeli military spokesperson confirmed that Israeli forces targeted Syrian military underground structures in the Ain al-Tina area of the Golan Heights. These structures were said to have breached the 1974 disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria.
The spokesperson detailed that Israeli tanks struck two temporary buildings utilized by the Syrian military in the Ain al-Tina region. Their presence was considered a violation of the disengagement agreement.
Israeli military reconnaissance identified these temporary structures in the security zone on Wednesday. Following this detection, swift action was taken to neutralize the potential threat.
Highlighting Israel’s position, the military spokesperson asserted that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will not tolerate attempts to breach the “Disengagement of Forces Agreement”.
The establishment of such buildings by Syria clearly contravenes the 1974 agreement, emphasizing the delicate nature of relations in the region.
The Golan Heights, a region known for its strategic importance, has historically been a flashpoint between Israel and Syria. The disengagement agreement, signed in 1974 after the Yom Kippur War, delineates the boundaries and terms of non-hostility between the two nations.
