Three Hezbollah militants were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a residence in Southern Lebanon this Saturday. The strike occurred amid near-daily cross-border shelling since the onset of the war in Gaza over six months ago.
According to a source close to Hezbollah cited by Agence France-Presse, the intensity of Hezbollah’s attacks on military sites increased this week, resulting in several injuries among Israeli forces, mostly soldiers.
The source, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that the Israeli strike not only killed three Hezbollah members but also severely wounded two others in the town of Jebin in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency earlier reported that “hostile aircraft carried out a raid targeting a house in the town of Jebin, with ambulance teams dispatched to the area.”
Hezbollah has not yet confirmed the deaths of its members but has issued consecutive statements claiming responsibility for targeting Israeli military sites and gatherings, as well as Israeli surveillance equipment.
This week saw a significant escalation in hostilities following tensions that escalated last weekend when Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel. This direct attack on April 1 was a response to an alleged Israeli bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
An attack by Hezbollah on a military site in northern Israel on Wednesday resulted in 14 Israeli soldiers sustaining injuries, according to the military.
Since the day after the war between Israel and Hamas began, Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire almost daily across the border.
Hezbollah announces its targeting of Israeli military sites, surveillance devices, and gatherings, while the Israeli military responds with airstrikes and artillery fire, claiming to target Hezbollah infrastructure and militant movements near the border.
Since the escalation began, at least 375 people have been killed in Lebanon, including at least 250 Hezbollah members and 70 civilians. On the other side, Israel has reported the deaths of ten military personnel and eight civilians.
