The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that Defense Minister Yoav Galant has retracted his support for opening a front against Lebanon due to the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli army’s inability to end the conflict.
Just a week ago, the military had approved operational plans for a large-scale attack on Lebanon.
Notably, the Iranian mission to the UN warned Israel that a full-scale attack on Lebanon would trigger an obliterating war.
Iran described Israel’s threats as psychological warfare but stated that if Israel proceeds with full military aggression, a war of annihilation will follow, involving all Resistance Fronts.
In mid-June, the Israeli military approved an operational plan for an offensive in Lebanon, intending to target Hezbollah forces following ongoing operations against Hamas in Gaza. Hezbollah, like Hamas, occasionally shells Israel from the north.
Iran’s warning underscores the potential for a broader regional conflict, as the involvement of multiple Resistance Fronts could draw in other countries and non-state actors allied with Iran and Hezbollah. The international community has expressed concern over the escalating rhetoric and military preparations, urging both sides to seek diplomatic solutions to avoid a large-scale war that could destabilize the region further.
