The Israeli military targeted Syrian army facilities, which, according to Israel, are being used by armed units affiliated with the Lebanese “Hezbollah,” according to a statement issued by the Israeli military on Tuesday evening. The Israeli military’s media office confirmed in its statement that the intelligence information received by the Israeli side indicates Hezbollah’s use of these facilities.
At the same time, the Israeli military held Damascus responsible for all actions of “Hezbollah” on Syrian territory.
The Israeli military added in its statement, “We will not allow any attempt to consolidate Hezbollah’s presence on the Syrian front.” The statement also clarified that the military directed strikes at Hezbollah observation posts in southern Lebanon. Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military announced that it had targeted a Syrian military site in response to rocket fire on the Golan Heights.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights referred to two Israeli strikes that occurred on Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The Observatory stated that “Israeli airstrikes targeted the area of Mahja in the northern countryside of Daraa at dawn today (Tuesday).” According to the Observatory, the bombing targeted “regime warehouses containing weapons and ammunition for it and for the Iranian militias, leading to the destruction of weapons without information on human losses.” On Monday evening, according to the Observatory, Israel bombed a military site in southern Syria “in response to rockets fired by groups supported by Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah from Syrian territory towards the occupied Syrian Golan.”
Israel expects Iranian response after April 12
On another note, Israeli military officials believe that Iran may strike the Israeli side after April 12 in response to the bombing of its consulate in Damascus, according to what was published by the “Times of Israel” newspaper. According to these expectations, Israel believes that Tehran will not take retaliatory steps for the bombing of its consulate in Damascus until the end of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which will end on April 12. According to the newspaper, Israel also believes that the potential Iranian strike will target military or strategic facilities, rather than civilian infrastructure. It confirmed that the Israeli side is preparing for any potential attack from Iran and its followers in the region.
