Real Madrid, the leader of the Spanish football league, announced on Friday the extension of its Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti’s contract until June 2026.
The Royal Club stated in a statement on its official website that 64-year-old Ancelotti, who was expected to become the coach of the Brazilian national team starting from next summer, “will ultimately be linked with Real Madrid until June 30, 2026.”
This decision marks Ancelotti’s continued commitment to Real Madrid, where he has been at the helm since 2021 and previously managed from 2013 to 2015. Under his leadership, Real Madrid has achieved significant success, including one league title, two Champions League trophies, and two Club World Cups. This contract extension also dispels previous speculations about Ancelotti potentially taking over as the manager of Brazil’s national team. These rumors were further fueled by the then Brazilian FA president Ednaldo Rodrigues’s interest in Ancelotti for the national team coach position.
However, with Ancelotti’s renewed commitment to Real Madrid, he effectively ends these rumors and solidifies his position at the top of one of Europe’s most successful football clubs.
Real Madrid CF has had a rich history of managers since its first professional manager was appointed in 1910. The first full-time manager was Arthur Johnson, who served from 1910 to 1920. The most successful manager in terms of trophies won is Miguel Muñoz, who won nine La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups, two European Cups, and one Intercontinental Cup during his 15-year tenure. Muñoz is also the club’s longest-serving manager. Other notable managers include Zinedine Zidane, who won three UEFA Champions League titles, and current manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has won several major titles with the club.
