Jordan‘s Foreign Ministry condemned Israeli attempts in the Knesset to designate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization and to undermine its activities by seeking to strip it of its privileges and criminalize its operations.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Sufian Al-Qudah, stated that Israel’s ongoing attempts to delegitimize and undermine UNRWA, which affirms the rights of Palestinian refugees to return and compensation under international law, constitute illegitimate, unlawful, and invalid practices, representing a violation of international law and Israel’s obligations as the occupying power.
Al-Qudah stressed the urgent need for immediate international action to provide protection for the Palestinian people and UN agencies and relief organizations working to alleviate the ongoing impact of Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
He emphasized the mandate granted to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in accordance with its UN mandate, and the necessity for the international community to continue supporting the agency and ensuring its continued fulfillment of its indispensable responsibilities in providing vital services to Palestinian refugees.
