Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, held discussions on Sunday with the European Union’s (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, addressing the severe deterioration in the Gaza Strip and its implications.
During a phone call initiated by Borrell, Safadi emphasized the urgent need to focus on halting the conflict in Gaza, protecting civilians, and delivering humanitarian aid to the beleaguered area.
Safadi warned that the ongoing conflict and the lack of international demand to end it can give an impression that this is a Western-Arab Islamic war, potentially exacerbating tensions further.
Additionally, Safadi had discussions with the Executive Director of the World Food Program, Cindy McCain, regarding the efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Both parties acknowledged the collaboration between Jordan and the program in these endeavors. They reiterated the commitment to ensure timely and effective delivery of aid.
The two officials also recognized the deep-rooted cooperation mechanisms in place and confirmed the continuity of consultations and collaboration on ways to enhance them, ensuring urgent and efficient aid delivery.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has announced a distressing escalation in casualties resulting from the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.
As of 22 October 2023, the death toll has risen to 4,651, including 1,873 children, 1,023 women, 187 elderly individuals, and 14,245 injured.
Additionally, Gaza’s official media bureau revealed that a staggering 50% of residential units in the region have incurred varying degrees of damage due to Israeli aggression.
This damage extends to over 165,000 housing units, impacting countless families.
