Today, Monday, Jordan’s King Abdullah II held talks with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid at the Basman Palace in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.
The two leaders, during bilateral discussions followed by an extensive meeting, addressed current developments. The king warned that the current events in the region may lead to further escalation, threatening its security and stability.
Both leaders emphasized the need to intensify efforts to achieve an immediate cessation of aggression against Gaza and to work towards finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, ensuring the full legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and ending the cycle of violence in the region.
He stressed the importance of protecting civilians in Gaza and increasing the provision of humanitarian aid to the sector through all possible means.
The leaders also reiterated their rejection of the violence perpetrated by extremist settlers against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the violations against the holy sites in Jerusalem.
The Jordanian king reaffirmed the importance of Iraq’s pivotal role in the region and Jordan’s support for its security and stability, adding, “Jordan’s security is inseparable from Iraq‘s.”
The discussions also addressed the distinguished relations between the two countries and peoples, and ways to expand cooperation in all fields, particularly in energy, industry, trade, and the environment, to enhance economic partnership and integration in various developmental sectors.
He pointed out the importance of intensifying efforts to implement the agreements and joint projects between Jordan and Iraq, commending the operation of the first phase of the electrical interconnection project between the two countries.
The Iraqi president emphasized the depth of the relations between the two brotherly countries and the need to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination in various political, security, commercial, economic, energy, environmental, and tourism fields.
Rashid stressed that Iraq’s security and stability are integral to the security and stability of the region, praising Jordan’s supportive positions towards Iraq in facing the challenges it faces, particularly in its fight against terrorism.
He also highlighted the importance of continuing the meetings between Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt periodically and moving forward in achieving the outcomes of the previous trilateral summits.
The talks were attended by Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh, His Majesty’s Office Director Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Youssef Al-Shamali, the head of the accompanying honorary mission for the guest, and the accompanying delegation of the Iraqi President.
