The Jordan Football Association (JFA) announced the appointment of Moroccan Jamal Sellami as the new head coach of the national team.
Sellami will lead the team in the final round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September and the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Sellami’s appointment follows the resignation of another Moroccan coach, Hussein Ammouta.
The JFA expressed their deep appreciation for Ammouta’s contributions during his tenure.
“The Jordan Football Association expresses its pride and deep appreciation for the period during which Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta led the national team and the significant efforts and services he and his assistant staff provided to Jordanian football,” the statement read.
“Under his leadership, the national team achieved a historic second-place finish in the 2023 Asian Cup and qualified for the final round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, topping their group convincingly.”
The JFA acknowledged the personal circumstances that led to Ammouta’s decision to step down.
“The association respects the special circumstances preventing Coach Ammouta from continuing to lead the team.
Accordingly, the JFA Board of Directors has agreed to terminate his contract and that of his assistant staff by mutual consent,” the statement added.
The JFA emphasized that the achievements under Ammouta’s leadership would always be highly regarded by the Jordanian football community and its fans.
“The accomplishments achieved under Coach Ammouta’s guidance will always be appreciated and recognized by the Jordanian football family and supporters,” the statement concluded.
