In an alarming escalation, Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, announced on Wednesday that Russia launched a “massive” attack on the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday evening, using drones and missiles. “Kyiv has not witnessed such a strong attack since spring,” Popko stated in a Telegram post.
According to Popko, multiple drone groups targeted Kyiv from “different directions,” followed by missile launches towards the city from Tu-95MS strategic bombers.
He added that air defense forces successfully destroyed more than 20 “hostile targets.” The assault resulted in two men, aged 26 and 36, being killed, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries due to falling debris.
Earlier on Wednesday, Kyiv’s mayor reported that fire and rescue services were active in the debris sites in Darnytsky and Shevshenkyivsky districts.
This unprecedented attack has intensified the international spotlight on Ukraine and Russia, as it raises serious questions about the stability of the region. The incident also sparks new concerns about the potential escalation of hostilities, putting Ukrainian citizens and international peace at risk.
