Lebanon’s General Security announced yesterday its commencement of measures to regulate and organize the file of Syrians residing on Lebanese soil.
The General Directorate of General Security stated in a press release that General Security departments and centers have started implementing several measures. These include urging Syrians who violate entry and residency regulations to directly approach border departments and centers to facilitate the necessary procedures for settling their status and leaving Lebanese territory.
Among the measures is also a strict enforcement against employing, accommodating, or providing housing for Syrians residing illegally in Lebanon, in addition to prohibiting registered Syrians with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from engaging in any paid work outside the designated sectors for them.
The directorate also pointed to the resumption of organizing “voluntary and safe” return operations for Syrian nationals wishing to return to their country under its sponsorship. It also announced the suspension of granting or renewing residence permits based on a housing lease contract, along with halting the issuance or renewal of permits.
Furthermore, the directorate highlighted the amendment of residence permit renewal conditions based on financial sponsorship, as well as the closure of all non-compliant institutions and establishments managed or invested by Syrians, and the appropriate actions against anyone employing foreign workers contrary to residency regulations and labor laws.
