The interim government under the House of Representatives has announced its readiness to host the inaugural Africa-Europe conference on migration in the city of Benghazi, Libya, at the end of May.
In preparation for the conference, the Diplomatic Studies Institute, affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the same government, organized a preparatory seminar on migration in the Mediterranean region.
The seminar took place in Tangier, Morocco, from March 28th to 30th, paving the way for the conference.
The seminar was held in collaboration with the Mediterranean Migration and Asylum Authority and saw the participation of academics, politicians, human rights activists, and representatives from civil society from Libya, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Senegal, Morocco, and Tunisia.
Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, the Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, stated that the government has made efforts to address migration issues and provide assistance to migrants from Africa and sub-Saharan regions.
Al-Hweij denied any reports of human rights violations against migrants in areas controlled by the government led by Osama Hamad.
