In light of the devastating aftermath of the storm “Daniel,” Libya’s Prime Minister-designate from the House of Representatives, Osama Hammad, has announced the organization of an international conference scheduled for the 10th of October in the city of Derna. This initiative aims to address the reconstruction of the city and surrounding areas that have suffered significant damages.
Hammad, who is also the head of the High Committee for Emergency Response and Rapid Reaction, has issued a fervent call to the international community to actively participate in this conference. The intent is to introduce innovative and prompt reconstruction plans for the devastated cities and regions, which include the rebuilding of roads and dams essential for shielding the cities against natural disasters like the recent calamity. The announcement was made available to the public on the government’s official Facebook page this Friday.
In addressing the repercussions of the “Daniel” storm, Hammad mentioned that it resulted in numerous casualties and unparalleled infrastructural damages to Derna and its adjacent regions. He clarified, “The government, with the comprehensive support of its executive instruments and the General Command, has initiated rescue, relief, and victim recovery operations. We’ve addressed pressing concerns, especially regarding roads, electricity, and other vital facilities.”
He also acknowledged the commendable support provided by sister nations, friendly countries, and international and local organizations in terms of relief efforts, humanitarian aid, medical services, logistics support, and specialist teams for victim recovery.
In conclusion, Hammad emphasized the heartfelt plea of the citizens of the afflicted city of Derna and surrounding regions affected by “Daniel” to restore their homeland for secure and normal living. He reiterated the government’s call for the international community’s active participation in the upcoming conference. Their collective aim remains clear: to swiftly and innovatively reconstruct Derna, its roads, and protective dams, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents against future natural disasters.
