The General-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar, emphasized the commitment of the armed forces to build a prosperous future for Benghazi.
Speaking at a Benghazi reconstruction event on Saturday evening, Haftar highlighted a strategy that focuses on infrastructure development and urban planning.
Haftar noted that the designated government from the House of Representatives is actively pursuing tangible projects for Benghazi’s advancement. He expressed a desire to see results from such efforts, contrasting them with previous initiatives that failed to deliver noticeable outcomes.
“We continue to collaborate and coordinate with the Libyan government in constructing cities according to well-thought-out plans,” Haftar stated, emphasizing the armed forces’ ongoing partnership with the Libyan administration.
Describing Libya’s current phase as a period of renaissance and urbanization, Haftar remarked, “What we are witnessing today is the inauguration of larger and more significant projects.”
He further elaborated on Benghazi’s resilience against terrorism, asserting that the city deserves substantial developmental projects to attract visitors and investors.
Moreover, Haftar highlighted Benghazi’s selection as the capital of Islamic culture, emphasizing its evolving role as a hub for leadership, reconstruction, knowledge, sciences, and arts.
“We call for support in education, cultural activities, theater, and creativity as they form an integral part of the national project we aspire to achieve,” Haftar concluded.
This development underscores the concerted efforts by various institutions, including the armed forces and governmental bodies, to revitalize Benghazi and position it as a prominent cultural and economic center in Libya.
