The Administrative Control Authority in Libya has decided to suspend the Minister of Oil and Gas in the interim Government of National Unity, Mohamed Aoun, from his duties as part of an investigation conducted by the authority to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
Abdullah Qadbour, the head of the Control Authority, issued the decision on Monday to suspend the Minister of Oil and Gas in the government, Mohamed Aoun, from his duties for reasons and requirements related to the investigation’s interests.
The decision stated that the minister’s suspension was made “for reasons and requirements of public interest,” and based on “a memorandum from the Director of the General Investigation Department, and the progress of the investigation into the facts of case number 178 revealing legal violations.”
The decision did not provide further details about the pending case or the violations under investigation.
Fathallah Ben Kaddour, the head of Libya’s National Oil Corporation, announced that the country’s oil production is set to surpass 1.5 million barrels per day by the end of next year, with expectations to reach 2 million barrels daily within three years.
According to a statement from the media office of the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Ben Kaddour emphasized that achieving this goal requires continuous financial support for ongoing projects to reach the desired level of productivity.
These remarks were made during the tenth regular meeting of the Supreme Council for Energy and Water Affairs, chaired by Council President Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah, to discuss agenda items related to the oil and gas sector.
