In light of recent geopolitical developments, Lithuania announced today, Wednesday, its decision to close two out of six of its border crossing points with Belarus.
The move comes weeks after members of the Russian “Wagner Group” traveled to Belarus. This followed an incomplete revolt declared by Yevgeny Prigozhin against the leadership of the country and Russia’s Ministry of Defense, as reported by Reuters.
Both Poland and Lithuania have strengthened their military presence along the Belarus border. This escalation followed Minsk’s announcement of welcoming fighters from the “Wagner Group”.
