As part of its proactive counterterrorism efforts, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) in Morocco, under the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully dismantled a four-member terrorist network. The operation, carried out in Tangier, Casablanca, Beni Mellal, and Inzegane on January 29 and 30, targeted a group involved in recruiting and sending fighters to join the Sahel-Saharan branch of the “Daesh” organization.
Investigations revealed that the dismantled network collaborated with leaders of the Daesh organization in the Sahel-Saharan region to facilitate the travel of extremists to the area. During searches at the suspects’ residences, aged between 35 and 40, authorities seized electronic devices, money, bladed weapons, balaclavas, gloves, and a rifle.
The operation reflects Morocco’s commitment to addressing the increasing threats posed by Daesh and other terrorist organizations. The arrests were part of the ongoing efforts to counter incitement from these groups, particularly in the Sahel region, urging individuals to join their ranks.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody as part of the BCIJ’s investigation, supervised by the prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism and extremism affairs. The inquiry aims to uncover the suspects’ connections with foreign terrorist organizations and unveil any potential terrorist plans or activities. Once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be brought to justice.
