During a high-level meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council on Friday, Morocco called for a lasting political solution to the crisis in Sudan. Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s permanent representative to the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa, emphasized that the only solution to the Sudanese crisis is a political one, involving serious and constructive dialogue, alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, preserving state institutions, and preventing their collapse.
Arrouchi expressed Morocco’s hope that military confrontations in Sudan would cease, advocating for dialogue to restore trust, promote peace, and achieve reconciliation to address Sudan’s challenges. He stressed that the resolution to the current crisis in Sudan should be through a constructive dialogue initiated by the Sudanese themselves, reiterating Morocco’s support for the Jeddah platform and other initiatives aimed at restoring stability throughout Sudan.
The Moroccan ambassador also highlighted the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to enhance confidence-building measures, protect the Sudanese people and their national resources, support reconstruction, and respond effectively to the difficult humanitarian situation. The Moroccan delegation called for containing this crisis within its national (Sudanese-Sudanese) framework and avoiding interference in the internal affairs of the Sudanese to prevent exacerbating the conflict and threatening regional peace and security.
The Moroccan delegation reaffirmed Morocco’s solidarity with the Sudanese people during these difficult times and its ongoing contribution to all efforts at the continental and international levels to resolve the Sudanese crisis, ensuring Sudan’s territorial and national unity for the benefit of the Sudanese people.
