The Polish Army announced that NATO launched its largest naval exercise, “BALTOPS 24,” in the Baltic Sea.
According to the army’s statement, “Over 50 ships of various classes and types, 45 helicopters and aircraft, and 9,000 military personnel are participating in this year’s BALTOPS 24 exercises.
NATO’s most significant naval drills in the Baltic Sea basin will commence on Wednesday, June 5.”
The statement highlighted that this year, representatives from all brigades of the Polish Armed Forces will be involved in the exercises.
The Polish fleet will be represented by three ships: the frigate “General Pulaski,” the ship “Ślązak,” and the minesweeper “Nisko.”
Additionally, the 6th Polish Airborne Brigade will perform its duties in Sweden, with Polish Air Force transport aircraft establishing an air bridge to transfer the brigade to the operational area.
The Polish Army indicated that the exercise scenario involves “operations against the backdrop of a conflict between fictitious states, with the exercise itself being defensive in nature.”
NATO is preparing multiple “land corridors” to quickly move US troops and military equipment to the front lines in the event of a major ground conflict with Russia in Europe.
US soldiers would arrive at one of five ports and then be directed along pre-planned logistical routes to confront a potential attack by Moscow, officials have revealed.
This comes as NATO’s top leaders warn that Western governments must prepare themselves for a potential conflict with Russia in the next two decades.
Establishing reliable logistical routes has become a key priority since NATO leaders agreed last year to have 300,000 troops ready to defend the alliance at a high state of readiness, during a summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
