In a meeting aimed at reinforcing bilateral ties, Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, the Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, met with Nigel Huddleston, the UK’s Minister of State for Business and Trade.
The ministers discussed multiple avenues of mutual cooperation, focusing on reviewing growth indicators of bilateral trade and identifying ways to amplify it. Additionally, current stances concerning the free trade agreement negotiations between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations and the UK were addressed.
A Step Towards Strategic Collaboration
As reported by the Oman News Agency, Nasser bin Khamis Al Jashmi, Secretary-General of the Omani Ministry of Finance and head of the Omani side in the Omani-British Strategic Consultative Group, alongside Mohsen bin Hamad Al Hadrami, Deputy Minister of Energy and Minerals, held talks with the British official.
Their discussions revolved around the bilateral relations in the realms of trade, renewable energy, and green hydrogen. Furthermore, they deliberated on the activities of the Omani-British Strategic Consultative Group.
Anticipated Developments in GCC-UK Trade Talks
Notably, Nigel Huddleston is expected to attend the 65th Trade Cooperation Committee meeting of the GCC countries. This meeting, scheduled for Thursday in Salalah, will focus on the free trade agreement negotiations between the GCC nations and the UK.
With the strengthening of these ties, Oman and the UK are set to explore a new chapter in their trade and investment relations, signaling robust economic prospects for both countries.
