In a pressing appeal, the Palestinian mission to the United Nations and various international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, has sent urgent messages to accredited missions regarding the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. The mission calls upon the international community and all concerned parties to swiftly intervene and halt the aggression against our people in Gaza, as reported by the Palestinian News Agency, WAFA.
The mission also issued a warning against the repressive measures taken by the Israeli government and the extremist minister Itamar Ben Gvir against Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons.
On Saturday, October 7th, the General Commander of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Mohammed al-Deif, announced the commencement of “Operation Al-Aqsa Storm” to put an end to Israeli violations. In a statement, al-Deif stated that the initial strike targeted enemy positions, airports, and military fortifications, involving over 5,000 rockets and projectiles.
Following this, the Israeli Defense Forces initiated “Operation Iron Swords” and launched heavy airstrikes on Gaza, engaging in clashes with Hamas fighters within settlements.
Hamas successfully captured an undisclosed number of Israelis, including soldiers and officers, returning them to Gaza. Meanwhile, on Sunday, October 8th, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office officially announced that the Security Cabinet had approved the commencement of the war on Gaza.
Simultaneously, Israeli Channel 12 reported that thousands of rockets have been launched at Israel, with dozens of terrorists infiltrating Israeli territory. Israeli aircraft continue to conduct severe airstrikes on Hamas positions in Gaza.
The situation remains highly volatile and threatens to escalate further unless swift international intervention is realized. The Palestinian mission continues to seek assistance in bringing an end to this tragic conflict, which has already claimed innocent lives on both sides.
The recent escalation in violence between Israel and Gaza has its roots in long-standing tensions between the two sides. It was sparked by a series of events, including clashes in East Jerusalem, Israeli police actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the looming eviction of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. These developments ignited protests and rocket attacks from Gaza, which, in turn, prompted Israeli airstrikes and military operations. The situation has garnered global attention and concern, with many countries and organizations calling for a ceasefire and peaceful negotiations to resolve the conflict. The Palestinian mission’s appeal for international intervention underscores the urgency of finding a diplomatic solution to prevent further bloodshed and suffering in the region.
